Whole body plethysmography (WBP) is a non-invasive measure of ventilatory parameters in conscious, unrestrained mice. WBP measures box flow within the chamber to derive respiratory parameters. Commonly assessed parameters include:
- Breathing rate
- Tidal volume
- Minute volume
- Inspiration time
- Expiration time
- Peak inspiratory flow
- Peak expiratory flow
- Respiratory pause time
Common uses of plethysmography include:
- Airway hyper-reactivity models
- Hypoxic and hypercapnic ventilatory responses
- Late phase response studies
- Drug screening
- Toxicology
